Escondido is a city in San Diego County’s North County region, California. The small, somewhat landlocked city has many personalities and its people live mostly casual lives. “Escondido” is a Spanish word meaning “hidden,” but there is nothing hidden about the city’s dark side of substance abuse. This may not be unconnected to Escondido’s proximity to California’s border with Mexico, which exposes people in the area to harmful illicit drugs alongside other harmful substances like alcohol and opioids.
If left untreated, addictions and mental illness can lead to legal, family, financial, and social problems. With over 298 mental health professionals for every 100,000 people in Escondido, the city boasts of a higher ratio of health care professionals, including health care providers, than larger cities like Los Angeles. This means Escondido and its environs have plenty of help available to those who suffer from these problems.
Best Rehab Centers in Escondido
The Fellowship Center
The Fellowship Center is a private, not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization in San Diego suburbs. The center is a behavioural health service provider that specializes in the treatment and care of substance abuse patients.
This center is not new to the behavioral care service, as it has been providing therapy and care for young and adult male victims of alcohol and chemical dependency since it was founded in 1963. TFC runs on a philosophy it calls the "Social Model Recovery," which is built on the foundation of the AA 12-step program.
Thus, the Social Model Recovery is essentially based on the concept of mutual self-help, bolstered by an environment that encourages clients to model the actions of their sober peers and staff and to relearn how to deal with the challenges of living an addiction-free lifestyle. Treatment at The Fellowship Center consists of three phases, with the first phase requiring comparatively more effort, focus, and dedication.
At phase one, patients surrender their mobile devices, and all necessary appointments are coordinated through designated staff. The treatment plan at this critical first phase often includes physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual goals and objectives. At the second phase, patients attend mandatory meetings and participate in other rehabilitative activities such as job readiness and search, family reunification, resolving legal issues, etc.
To complete phase two, participants must complete a transition plan that is approved by their specialist. The third phase is characterized by TFC’s “Well Recovery” program. This is designed to help participants in the action stage of change. This phase generally lasts 30 to 60 days. Participants in phase three are reassigned to a recovery specialist who is trained in recovery coaching.
Although TFC’s residential programs seem to dominate their services, they also offer individualized rehabilitation program in an outpatient capacity, and support is always available to outpatient clients. Additionally, TFC offers a family recovery program that provides education, recreation, and community resources to families and loved ones affected by alcoholism and drug addiction.
The Fellowship Center promises not to turn away any clients for lack of funds. At a reasonable price for 30 days of treatment, clients of TFC can pay out of pocket, with credit cards, and private or state insurance. Cost of treatment only goes up if the client chooses to extend their stay at the center.
