Though Mississippi ranks towards the bottom half of the country when it comes to alcohol and substance abuse, it is estimated that only a small percentage of Mississippi residents who may otherwise need treatment actually seek it out. Getting help is not easy, and a lot of the times the most difficult part can be the first step.
For those who make the decision to start the path to recovery, they will find a wealth of wonderful options in Mississippi. From luxury centers surrounded by beautiful nature to detox centers that can offer medication-assisted treatment, there is something for everyone looking to escape the grips of addiction.
Best Rehab Centers in Mississippi
Harbor House is an intensive 12-step rehab process for those with serious addictions. From beginning to end, the full length of the program is two years. Harbor House offers medically assisted detox alongside an MAT program (Medication-Assisted Treatment), which allows patients to fully detox as comfortably as possible. A full medical staff is on-site to make sure to handle any illnesses or complications that could arise during this process.
Residential care is offered for 90 days over the course of two phases. Phase one is a series of group therapy, individual therapy with written assignments to be done. This phase lasts for 30 days. Phase two continues therapies but allows patients to go off campus with permission. This phase lasts 60 days.
The outpatient program is a two-year commitment with group therapy and exercises on a rope obstacle course. Patients will be expected to stay sober and are drug tested regularly.
DUI assessments are also available for those who are court-mandated. Completing these assessments can reduce the time an individual goes without a license or could reduce jail time.
CrossRoads Recovery Center
The CrossRoads Recovery Center is a program that is run by the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center. The GCMHC covers a wide range of disorders, including alcohol and substance abuse. The intensive outpatient program meets for 12 weeks, followed by the outpatient program, which lasts for nine months. This program includes both individual and group therapy. CrossRoads has a partnership with the Second Circuit Court District for those with court orders to enroll in rehab. CrossRoads also offers a program to help those with several DUIs get their driver's license back.
Warren Yazoo Behavioral Health
Warren Yazoo Behavioral Health offers a 30-day residential treatment program for those who have already detoxed but need around the clock support. The residential treatment program takes place in Vicksburg, MS, and has a 25-bed availability. Both men and women are admitted but are separated by gender.
In this program, individuals will receive group counseling and recovery skills. Emphasis is placed on the resuming of responsibility when it comes to employment, community engagement, socialization, and volunteer work. The staff is made up of a team of psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, physicians, and recovery support specialists. This is a completely chemical-free environment.
The intensive outpatient program is modeled after the residential program but is stretched out over 15 weeks. This group meets once a week and will not interfere with the work or schooling schedules of those involved.
Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services
Pine Grove Behavioral Health is an all-in-one service that offers a variety of treatments and plans. The goal of Pine Grove is to treat those with mental disorders, which is to say that they don’t just treat addiction. With this all-in-one center, you’ll find treatment programs for children and adults, individuals, and whole families. There is a women-only treatment program to go along with their male treatment program.
Pine Grove uses evidenced based treatments to help with addiction and dual diagnosis as they believe that most addiction starts with co-occuring mental health diagnosis. Those who enter the Pine Grove treatment facility, whether it be inpatient or outpatient, can expect the following forms of therapy:
- 12-step therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Expressive Therapy
- Recreational Therapy
- Group Therapy
- Family Therapy
Vervata Health has recently undergone a name change, but that doesn’t mean the level of care is any different. The treatment program provided here is wide-ranging, offering clients pretty much every resource needed for recovery, except for a methadone clinic. Clients who go through Vervata health will be able to do their detox all the way through an outpatient program as they progress through recovery.
Suboxone is offered for those who need Medication-Assisted Treatment. Treatment is based on a holistic approach, which allows Vervata to tailor treatment to the needs of each client. DBT is the therapy of choice with an emphasis on co-occurring disorders. Vervata also highly encourages family support, which includes having family join for group therapy sessions.
Bridge to Recovery
Bridge to Recovery offers an intensive outpatient program that allows patients to move on with their lives while still getting their lives back on track. Patients will have group meetings three nights a weekly Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night.
These groups are broken up between the genders, as Bridge to Recovery believes in gender-specific treatment. Patients will also have individual therapy sessions once a week. The Wednesday session is called “family and friends” night where patients are encouraged to invite their loved ones to group meetings. The treatment process is based on the original 12-step process. Patients at Bridge to Recovery will be required to attend separate weekly 12-step meetings. Patients at Bridge to Recovery will be randomly drug tested twice a week.
The aftercare program is modeled after the intensive outpatient program but is much more lax. Those who use the aftercare program will get to choose which therapy sessions they attend, and will not be subject to random drug tests. The goal of the aftercare program is to assist in the continuation of personal growth and to aid in the prevention of relapse.
Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center
The Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center is a smaller treatment center that allows clients a more intimate approach to recovery. The residential program lasts for 30-60 days after detox, where clients will work closely with medical professionals to come up with a recovery plan that suits them. This evidence-based treatment is implemented through individual and group therapy sessions.
Clients will have time to enjoy the outdoors on their own and can also join various group recreational outings.
Home of Grace
Home of Grace was established in 1965 by Reverend Bill Barton Sr. when a higher power called to him to help those who struggle with alcoholism. Since then, Home of Grace has helped thousands of men and women on their road to recovery from the grips of addiction.
Those who choose to use Home of Grace will go down the path of faith-based recovery in two distinct phases that are centered around Christ and worship. The first phase includes intensive therapy to pinpoint destructive thought patterns that could lead to and help perpetuate addiction.
The second phase offers more therapy but is more focused on getting the patient back into the community. Here, patients will be allowed to attend workshops where they can learn many different payable skills. Patients will also have access to resources for obtaining a GED.
Extra Mile Recovery
Extra Mile Recovery was founded by Scott and Carrie Smith, both of whom were once in recovery themselves. Clients will also have access to hiking trails, a gym, yoga classes, and more.
Defining Wellness Centers started small and as a labor of love in Pennsylvania. Through a tremendous amount of success, they were able to branch out to several more locations across the United States, including Mississippi. It just so happens to be that the one luxury facility that Defining Wellness offers is the Mississippi location.
Here, clients will have access to a gourmet chef, technology lab, gym, private airport, and a scientific method known as pharmacogenomics. Pharmacogenomics allows doctors to take a blood sample from a client, which then gives them a more accurate idea of medication needed for the client.
Aside from luxury amenities, Defining Wellness offers a lot of the treatments you would come to expect from a rehab and recovery center. The 12-step method is used and therapies included are:
- Music therapy
- Expressive arts
- Trauma Counseling

To make sure that interruptions to life are minimal, Stonewall Adolescent Recovery offers a private school program for clients. This allows clients to continue their learning, and maybe more importantly, continue their learning at their own pace. This program is sponsored by the University of Mississippi High school.
