7th Street Treatment helps those in recovery achieve healthy, meaningful lives, providing a full continuum of care in a safe and supportive environment. Treatment is premised on the 12-Step model, and consists of individual and group therapy, combined with medication-assisted treatment, if needed.

The residential treatment program lasts for 60-90 days, during which patients undergo 25 hours of therapy each week. This includes expressional therapies, creative writing classes, and life skills development, as well as psychoeducational programming on assertiveness, shame resiliency, embracing your inner child, and relapse prevention. Patients receive individual case management and a full psychiatric assessment.

Those unable to live at the facility full-time during treatment can opt for the Day Program, Intensive Outpatient Program, or the General Outpatient Program, which only require a commitment of 22, 11, or 6 hours a week. After completing one of these programs, patients graduate to the aftercare program, where they can build and solidify supportive connections in the recovery community.

The Utah chapter of Volunteers of America provides a wide array of gender-specific, faith-based addiction rehabilitation services in Salt Lake City and Murray. People in acute crisis are advised to begin their recovery journey at either the Men’s Detoxification Center or the Center for Women & Children —patients at the latter facility are allowed to bring their children, as long as they are under the age of ten. Patients can stay up to two weeks while undergoing the “social model” detox program, which relies on peer support, the 12-Step system, and trauma-informed therapeutic modalities like Seeking Safety.

The regular adult treatment program can be completed on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Treatment consists of medication-management, individual counseling, process-oriented recovery groups, and skills focused psychoeducational programming. Patients learn how to regulate their emotions through Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and develop coping strategies for tolerating distress. Their Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment program, for young adults aged 13-18, is similarly structured.

They also offer parenting lessons, free on-site daycare services, and interactive groups for families impacted by substance use disorder. Finally, those who have been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) can take the court-ordered Prime for Life class — a program also offered by Capstone Counseling Centers.

Odyssey House of Utah offers a full continuum of treatment options for drug and alcohol addiction. They do not utilize the typical 12-Step system, but rather a modified Therapeutic Community recovery model —a unique peer community structure that provides a positive support network premised on pro-social values. Treatment is individualized, and includes various modalities such as medication-assisted treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM).

The residential treatment program at Odyssey House is run by licensed mental health therapists who have extensive experience helping patients with depression, anxiety, anti-social personality disorder, and unresolved trauma. Using evidence-based best practices, the treatment process works to rebuild a patient's physical and mental health and maintain lasting sobriety. Patients learn communication skills, how to regulate their emotions, and address their negative core beliefs.

Uniquely, their Parents with Children drug treatment program is the only residential rehabilitation center in Utah that serves single fathers with children. While their parents are in treatment, kids attend daycare and work with staff who specialize in childhood trauma. An adolescent residential treatment program is also available, and features vocational training and an on-site accredited high school managed by the Salt Lake City School District.

Odyssey House also offers general and intensive outpatient treatment programs, which involve 9-16 or 2-5 hours of individual and group therapy each week, respectively. Finally, patients in transition can reside at Odyssey House’s newly remodeled, affordable sober living facilities.

addiction, as well as related psychological and behavioral disorders. Run by a multidisciplinary team of addiction recovery experts (each having over fifteen years of training and experience), their program is based on the latest scientific research and employs cutting-edge medical, psychiatric, and therapy-based practices.

Upon intake, patients receive a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment to evaluate the extent of their addiction — like Corner Canyon Recovery, Sovegna’s specialized screening process also includes genetic testing to determine a patient's biological predispositions in order to personalize the treatment program. Therapy is designed to strengthen patients’ inherent resilience, and includes activities like meditative movement, mindfulness practices, EMDR, and art therapy.

Their basic gender-specific or co-ed support groups meet for two hours each week, while their intensive outpatient treatment program consists of approximately 9-14 hours of sessions each week in small, 6-8 person groups. Patients also do a 60-90 minute one-on-one psychotherapy appointment each week.

With its intimate home setting, non-hierarchical family-like atmosphere, and social and emotional engagement between clients and staff, Corner Canyon Recovery offers residents a refreshingly informal (yet professional) inpatient treatment environment. Their program is trauma focused and designed for those with co-occurring disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). They also specialize in treating internet and gambling addicts, as well as people from the LGBTQ community —for those interested in gender reassignment surgery and hormone replacement therapy, they can provide access to the University of Utah’s Transgender Health Program.

The initial intake involves a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, as well as DNA testing to determine patients’ genetic predispositions for mental health and substance abuse issues. With their partner company Vitanya, they also map the brain of each incoming patient. This is done as part of their “neuro-healing therapy”, which works to improve neurotransmission and develop healthy neural pathways by stimulating the brain with mild electrical signals. Their Specialized Gut-Brain nutritional plan also aims to balance patients’ brain chemistry by promoting healthy bacteria in the digestive system, while their amino acid IV therapy works to reduce cravings.

Therapy is based on the 12-Step model, as well as the Refuge Recovery and “SMART” (Self-Management And Recovery Training) systems. CBT, DBT, and relational and experiential therapies are also incorporated into the program. Residents stay at the facility for an average of between 45-90 days, and generally transition to Corner Canyon Recovery’s intensive outpatient program after residential treatment.
